Description
All her life, the young lioness Leya has dreamed of becoming one of the karanja, the proud huntresses of her people. But there’s more to being karanja than just learning to throw a spear. Life among their tents means giving up family, safety—even love. How much is Leya willing to sacrifice for a place in the sisterhood? Does she truly have the heart of a huntress?
Author Renee Carter Hall takes readers into the veld for this coming-of-age anthropomorphic fantasy for teens and adults. This edition includes the novella “Huntress” (nominated in the 2014 Ursa Major Awards and Cóyotl Awards), as well as three brand-new short stories set in the same world.

A Truly Harrowing Coming-of-Age Story I want to read more about!
When I least expected to find this type of Book I found it and am better for it! This Series has practically everything I could have ever wanted in a Story and in a female lead, save for 2 aspects of course .
Leya is such a believable Protagonist whom although she wants one thing in life, to be a Huntress and not a wife and mother, she finds out it’s not at all what she expected, has doubts, falls in love, deals with heartache and dealing with the loss of a loved one, feeling like she no longer belongs and finding yet another path she could take, for her to finally be everything she wants to be by the end of the Book, alongside the Lion she loves and being a Leader to her New Band of Animals with roles their world has never seen merge together before.
The Author does a great job at capturing her in the impulsiveness of youth, lack of worldy experience, lack of patience and understanding of others feelings and finally learning all of that and realizing that the thing she wanted most wasn’t the only thing she should be, she could be so much more and she did just that. Leya along with Bahati have become my Favorite Feline Couple alongside Ratha and Thakur from The Named Series. I only wish this was a Book Series too!
