Description

The Eternal Party, an unending festivity that caters to the wildest sexual fantasies. It is held in secret at a magical manor house whose enchantments enforce two ironclad rules: “Canines command and felines obey” and “You can only enter if you want to be here.”

Except sometimes the rules are broken.

Calico cat Mila only wanted to get out of the rain, but once she entered the Eternal Party, the house would not let her leave. Now she is trapped and forced to obey the commands of any canine at the party, caught between newly awakened desires and the need to return home.

Lovely book, well written with enticing characters, fun dynamics, and great scenes. The ending feels a bit rushed to me, though in fairness it has to end somewhere. I really want to experience more from these characters and the mansion itself!

It is a gorgeous story about grief, love, and human connection.
The intrigue and drama were way more compelling to me than the sex scenes, though kink is not my scene, they are very easy to digest.

So I can get pretty picky with erotica and what does and doesn’t work for me. I’ve read and written enough that when something doesn’t work, it’s very apparent to me very fast that it won’t feel up to what I’m after in erotica. I think sex in stories is a great way to explore facets of characters… When it’s done well.

Which is why I think Dark End was so successful here. Because the sex in this book is so character based and focusing on how it relates to the characters’ journey.

There’s a good mix of body types and differing abilities (and I will always cheer seeing deaf characters portrayed as normal people) and yet it didn’t feel like it was fetishizing the differences to me either, which I’ve seen happen far too often in erotica.

And as someone who’s run some BDSM educational panels, this is a good view of BDSM. The magic system lampshades some aspects that would concern me of potential abuse, but the trust that is the cornerstone of any good dom/sub play is front and center.

But really, it was the characters that won me over. Mila and Alonso are so delightful together and seeing them bond was so cute and fun to see come together. There’s a few side characters I’d love to have seen more of and explore a little more, particularly Vivienne, but when it was over, I didn’t feel like I was robbed of anything, just wanted more in a good way.

So I can’t sing this book’s praises enough for doing what I love good erotica to do. I’ve legitimately already been recommending this book to other friends in the community because I think it’s that good.
